Quick bite at Gringo

Place: Cool and modern! The mix of wood and steel is nice, not to mention the touch of green on the ceiling. The lighting is warm, a good contrast to the cool look and cool air. The music plays a little too loud.

Food: Generally, OK lang, nothing great about it.

First on our table is the Mango Chicken Salad (Php 235): Salad greens, tomatoes, egg, peanut brittle, roasted chicken, and mango chutney. The flavors are fresh and vibrant, although the dominant taste is bordering on too citric sour.

Then we have a Half order Baby Back Ribs with Roasted Squash and Buttered Corn (Php 365). Nothing extraordinary about the marinade, with its whiffs of Worcestershire sauce and cola. It's not bad, but it ain't great. And this flavor isn't absorbed well by the meat. Labas lang ang may lasa. Sayang because the meat is really tender.

The Roasted Squash is a little bland. The Buttered Corn is K lang. Ang masarap, yung nacho chips!

Lastly, we have Gringo's Original Chicken (Php 285). The chicken is juicy naman, but its marinade, which has a pronounced tomato base, can only be sensed sa balat ng manok. Matabang yung laman. The nacho side dish is delish!

We are served with two sauces pala: a Lemon-Herb one and a Hot Sauce. The first is too sour, nasobrahan sa lemon. The other is yummy and really hot!

Price: Considering serving size and food quality, we find the food reasonably priced.

Service: Service is prompt, and waiting time is acceptable. The staff are attentive; sometimes, a little too attentive.

Gringo is at UP Town Center (Phase 2).
