Place: It has a good mix of modern and rustic, with its warm lights, concrete and brick walls, and stylish furnishings. The music inside the restaurant though is a little too loud.
Food: The food is generally delicious.
For starters, we have the Kansi Soup (Php 395). It's a clear soup with beef shanks and marrow, and some vegetables. The dish has a fruity sour taste that goes well with the beef flavor. This sour taste revs up the appetite and makes it ready for a hearty lunch.
Next is on our plate is Isaw (Php 185): three sticks of grilled chicken intestines. Clean and well seasoned, with just the right hint of crunch and charred flavor. Yummy!
Then, the Tortang Talong with Sardines and Kesong Puti (Php 250). It's eggplant omelet with spicy sardines and cheese. The dish has the right level of heat. The sardine taste is not too pungent nor overpowering. The omelet is fried perfectly, golden and not too oily. This dish is served with Pinakurat vinegar, which we find too acidic, and with Chili Banana Ketchup that is DELICIOUS.
Next, the Twice-Cooked Pork Belly (Php 325) that features boiled-then-grilled pork belly served with Ginamos Gata & Chili Garlic Sauce. The pork itself tastes ordinary. Also, it has too much fat. But the sauce of this dish! To die for! It is really good! The sauce is so delicious, you just want to drink it! Yum!
Lastly, the Lechon Manok Pancit Canton (Php 225). It's pancit canton topped with roasted chicken and spicy corn poppers. The noodles are little mushy, and the chicken is dry. But the flavor of the pancit is really good; you know that the ingredients are well sauteed for the taste is complete and punctuated.
For dessert, we have the Piaya Ice Cream Sandwich (Php 145). Two thin crispy pieces of flatbread with ice cream filling. For the ice cream, one can choose from three flavors: vanilla, ube, and cheese. We have the ube, and it's GOOD! Equally good are the salted muscovado caramel drizzle and the toasted rice crisps. It's a really yummy dessert option.
Price: Considering just the serving size, the food here is overpriced. But the taste and satisfaction can make one forget the price tag.
Service: The waiters are attentive and friendly. They're also very knowledgeable about the food they serve.
Sarsá is at the UP Town Center.
