Light, not too sweet, with just the right tartness from the fresh and juicy strawberries. Delicious!

Quick bite at Soban K-Town Grill

Place: Spacious and well designed. The colors are furnishings are modern and cool. The dining chairs are comfortable, and the table is big enough.

Food: Generally, delicious!

First on our table are some Kimchi Fries (Php 199): french fries smothered with kimchi, fried pork bits, and cheese. This dish is a winner! The fries are thick and crispy! Soban's kimchi is really tasty; it has the right level of acidity and heat. The quick-melt cheese is creamy and not salty; it tempers the delicious pungency of the kimchi.

Next, a piece of K-Taco (Php 75). Lettuce, kimchi, cheese, Japanese mayonnaise, and sour cream, plus your choice of barbecued meat (spicy chicken, beef, or pork), all nestling inside a slightly charred tortilla. What we have for our K-Taco is spicy chicken, which is a good choice because it completes the flavor fiesta of the dish. All the tastes complement each other: the sourness and heat of the kimchi, the creaminess of the sour cream, the saltiness of the cheese and mayo, the crisp blandness of the lettuce, and the sweet and subtle spiciness of the chicken. Plus, the tortilla is of high quality, thin and crisp. Yum!

Now, for some grilled meat, the place's main offering. What we have is the Samgyupsal Set: 120 grams of pork belly (Php 355) marinated with a Doenjang BBQ Flavor (There are other options: Original, Fruity, Chili Bean, Soy Garlic, and Wine. Doenjang is a Korean bean paste, like miso.) The set comes with unlimited serving of rice, soup, salad, and egg roll. The pork is juicy, tender, and of high quality. The marinade is flavorful, not too salty and has a subtle sweetness. The soup tastes like nilaga with a pronounced ginger taste. It's quite good, actually. The salad is a made with vegetables mixed with kimchi; it is sweet and sour. Appetizing! Equally appetizing is the egg roll. All in all, this set is a satisfying meal option.

For our drink, we got the Seouljito (Php 120), the Korean mojito. Bursting with citrus flavor, combined with the right amount of sppike, this one is a must-drink!

For dessert, we have the Coffee Prince (Php 120), which is a scoop of coffee ice cream on top of a Graham-crust sandwich that has a Korean red bean filling. The ice cream is nice, although there's nothing extraordinary about it. The Graham is buttery and sweet. The red beans are slightly bland and add some chewy texture to the dessert.

We also got a free scoop of Vanilla ice cream (Thanks Samsung!). The ice cream is a tad too milky.

Price: Considering serving size, quality, and taste, the food here is reasonably priced.

Service: Our servers are nice, neat, and friendly, always serving with a smile.

Soban K-Town Grill is on the 2nd floor of the Eastwood Mall.

First bite of the Choco Buns

They're chocolate bread from Max's Corner Bakery of Max's Restaurant. The bread has topping and filling depending on the variant, and there are three variants: Choco Truffle, Cookies & Cream, and Choco Custard.

The Choco Truffle is topped with chocolate chips and has a chocolate filling. The bread is soft and of good quality. The filling is not too sweet and has sufficient chocolate flavor. It is a little too pasty though.

The Cookies & Cream is topped with cream swirls and crushed cookie bits. Its filling is cream that is also not too sweet and equally pasty.

Lastly, the Choco Custard: choco bread with grated chocolate on top and a custard center. The custard flavor is too thick and a little too bland.

A pack of 3 costs Php 89. Each piece costs Php 30.

Try the Choco Buns and judge for yourself.

First bite of the Teriyaki Meatballs Donburi

A new Donburi creation from Tokyo Tokyo

Chicken balls smothered with teriyaki sauce and Japanese mayonnaise, served with buttered vegetables, rice, and soft-boiled egg.

he meatballs are tasty and packed. They're also well seasoned. The mixture of the teriyaki sauce and mayonnaise gives a balanced, sweet-salty flavor to the dish.  There's too much mayo though.

All in all, this Donburi variant is satisfying.

An order costs Php 145.

First bite of the Garlic Butter Shake Shake Fries

McDonalds brings back the Shake Shake Fries with a new flavor: the Garlic Butter.

It's delicious! It has the authentic creamy, milky taste of butter, with the right level of garlic pungency. Really good flavor for crispy french fries!

An order costs Php 65.

First taste of Maggi Sinigang Green Mango Surprise

It's the newest soup base mix from Maggi.

The mix makes your sinigang fragrant. Actually, not merely fragrant but reeking of a mango candy smell. Unfortunately though, that's the only mango component you'll have for the mango taste is non-existent. The fruity taste is missing in the soup.

Apparently, that is the "surprise:" all mango smell, no mango taste.

Try it and judge for yourself.

Quick sip of the Great Taste Dark Java

Another instant iced coffee drink from Great Taste.

Dark Java is creamy and smooth. The coffee taste, although bold and pronounced, doesn't taste good. Also, the sweetness is a little too much.

Try it and judge for yourself.

First taste of Del Monte Creamy & Cheesy Spaghetti Sauce

It's the latest Spaghetti Sauce variant from Del Monte.

The brand claims that this sauce has real cream and cheese, hence the name. Well, it is creamy. But cheesy? Not so. Then again, the sauce is delicious. It is sweet yet one can still sense some tomato sharpness. The sauce also has the umami taste, making it satisfying. It goes well with meat.

Try it and judge for yourself.

First sip of Great Taste Viêt Latte

It is Great Taste's instant version of cà phê đá or Vietnamese iced coffee.

It is delicious! It has the right level of sweetness that doesn't drown the deep, round coffee flavor of the drink. Also, the texture is truly smooth and creamy.

Viêt Latte is a better option than the other bottled coffee drinks in the market.

Try it and judge for yourself.

Quick bite of the Four Cheese Chizza

It's a fried chicken fillet topped with parmesan, cheddar, romano, and mozzarella cheeses.

It's delicious! The crunchy "chicken crust" is well seasoned, and the four-cheese topping is creamy and not salty at all. The herb confetti also adds some vibrancy to the dish. Quite good actually.

An order costs Php 110.

Try it and judge for yourself.

Quick bite of the Fried Pork Belly and Shrimp Sinigang

It's a new dish from Max's Restaurant.

It's a sour tamarind-based soup with vegetables, shrimp, and fried pork belly.

Delicious! The pork belly gives the sinigang a satisfying, adobo-tasting meat undertone that complements the sourness of the soup. Also, the shrimp are fresh and the vegetables are crisp.

All in all, this dish is a good choice for a hearty meal. Perfect with rice!
