First bite of the Sizzling Chicken Galantina

A new dish from The French Baker.

Rolled chicken fillet with egg and chorizo cubes.

The dish is delicious! Its flavors are balanced, nothing is too salty or pungent. The chorizo provides some subtle sweetness. The sizzling plate helps add good deep charred flavor to the dish. The chicken though is a little tough.

The gravy is tasty and well seasoned. The buttered vegetables are crisp and sweet.

All in all, this dish is a good and satisfying choice for a meal.

First sip of the Mango Fruit Jelly Yogurt Frappuccino and the Strawberry Fruit Jelly Yogurt Frappuccino

New Frappuccino variants from Starbucks.

Yogurt drinks with Frappuccino syrup, mango/strawberry jelly, mango/strawberry fruit pieces, and mango/strawberry syrup.

According to the barista, the yogurt powder used for the drink comes from France. The yogurt tastes good enough, but a little tartness would've made it better. The fruit flavors are amply authentic, not too saccharine. As for the jellies, their texture is inconsistent: the strawberry ones are too soft while the mango ones are a little half cooked.

A tip: just have "half pump" of the Frappuccino syrup so you can appreciate the yogurt flavor more. Also, try mixing the two variants together.

But if you really want to have the honest-to-goodness taste of yogurt with fruits, go to Red Mango.

A Tall order costs Php 160.

First bite of the Creamy Curry Bibimbowl

It's a new rice dish from Bon Chon. There are two meat options: Beef (thin slices of tender beef) and Chicken (boneless fried chicken chunks). We choose the Chicken.

Fried chicken, red onions, fried potato cubes, and crunchy green peas over rice, smothered with a yellow curry paste.

The dish is delicious! The curry has the right mix of hot, sweet, and earthy elements. It goes well with the perfectly seasoned and fried chicken. If the dish has any room for improvement, it will be in the texture department. There's just a tad too much crunch in every bite. But all in all, the Creamy Curry Bibimbowl is good!

An order costs Php 99.

First bite of the Tokyo Pepper Steak Rice Bowl

KFC offers a new variant of its Rice Bowl: the Tokyo Pepper Steak. It features Fun Shots and corn kernels on fried rice, smothered with a soy-based sauce.

The Tokyo Pepper Steak is tasty and delicious, but it does not taste anything like pepper steak. The sauce is just salty, no pepper flavor at all. Good thing the rice's buttery flavor tempers the saltiness, balancing the flavors. What the dish needs are crushed pepper corns to have some authentic pepper steak taste.

First bite of the Sweet-Spicy BBQ Burger Steak

A new dish from Jollibee.

Burger patty topped with corn and smothered with barbecue sauce. The sauce has good consistency, nice and thick. Is it sweet? Yes. Is it spicy? Definitely! But is it BBQ? No. The sauce lacks the smoky and tangy flavors of a real barbecue one. It tastes more like a really hot sweet sauce for fish balls. It is good, nonetheless. Very satisfying.

Quick slice of the Purple Yam Cheesecake

A new dessert option at Starbucks.

The ube-cheese mix is good; it has the right level of subtle sweetness, with a hint of sharpness. The macapuno component however adds the unnecessary saccharine layer, making this cheesecake too sweet! Also, a pinch of saltiness would've been nice.

Also, we find the crust too thin. A thicker crust could've tempered the sweetness of the top layers.

A slice costs Php 120.

Quick bite of Keiko Ninja Ball

Fruit-flavored chewy candies from Keiko.

They're soft, chewy, and a little disgusting to the taste. We tried Mango and Watermelon and both had hints of fruit flavor that was drowning in an artificial milky taste. And when you look at the list of ingredients, you will see a bunch of chemicals that are hard to pronounce. Yikes!

We say skip this one.

First bite of the Double Choco Crumble Hotcakes

A new breakfast treat from McDonalds!

Hotcakes with chocolate-malt sauce and crushed cookie topping.

They're delicious! The chocolate sauce is not too sweet and it tastes like melted ice cream. It also has the right thickness. The crushed cookie bits add the needed bitter flavor and crunch.

No need for the hotcake syrup; adding it will make the hotcakes unnecessarily saccharine.

An order costs Php 62.

Quick bite of the Cookie Straw

A cookie stick by Starbucks.

It is the straw used for the Mocha Ribbon Chip Frappuccino.

The cookie stick itself is not too hard to the bite and not too sugary to the taste. The chocolate filling is delicious, not too sweet and not too milky. All in all, quite good.

First bite of the Chicken Fillet Italiana

It's the latest chicken creation from McDonalds.

A fillet of fried chicken, topped with a sweet-spicy, tomato-based sauce and slice of cheese.

It's delicious! The sweetness of the sauce tempers the saltiness of the fried chicken. Plus, the heat adds some kick and whets the appetite. The cheese melts perfectly and provides the right creamy texture.

An order costs Php 59.

First sip of the Mocha Ribbon Chip with Cookie Straw

It's the latest concoction from Starbucks.

According to the barista, it's coffee Frappuccino with java chips and mocha sauce, topped with chocolate whipped cream and sprinkles. It's sipped with a cookie stick with chocolate filling.

The dominant flavor is that of milk chocolate, which is not bad. The drink though is a tad too sweet. What we like is the Cookie Straw. It's crispy and has a good cookie, not wafer, taste.

A Tall cup costs Php 185.

Quick bite of Timplador de Cebu lechon

Dubbed as "Cebu's best lechon."

The meat is tender, juicy, and well seasoned. No flavor component is overpowering (The lechon of other brands reek too much of lemongrass.). The fat around the meat is minimal. And the skin! Thin, crispy, GOOD!

There are two variants: regular and spicy. Have them both! Delicious!

Try Timplador lechon and judge for yourself.

First bite of the OMG Unfried Fried Chicken

It's Kenny Rogers Roasters's version of the fried chicken.

OMG: Outrageous. Mouthwatering. Guiltless. Guiltless because the chicken is not fried, so it's not so oily. Mouthwatering because the meat is juicy and the skin is crispy. Outrageous because who knew fried chicken could be healthier?

The OMG is delicious and tasty. The chicken is well seasoned and not salty. The only little complaint we have is that this chicken treat is not as pretty as your regular fried chicken. But hey, you can't have it all, can you?

Try the OMG Unfried Fried Chicken and judge for yourself.
