Quick slice of Pappy's Frozen Moist Chocolate Cake

It's a chocolate cake topped with chocolate sauce, inside a copper-colored canister.

The cake itself is really moist, almost gooey. The chocolate flavor has a good amount of bitterness. The sugar level is just right, nothing too overpowering.

All in all, this dessert treat is a winner.

First sip of Nescafé Blend & Brew

It's the latest instant coffee variant from Nescafé: Blend & Brew.

Blend & Brew is a 3-in-1 coffee mix that uses "real coffee grounds" and Nescafé powdered milk.

Is it good? Not really. It's too sweet! There's an initial, split-second taste of coffee, then comes the strong sugary flavor. We can't even sense the milk! Such a disappointment!

Try it and judge for yourself.

Quick lick of the Black Sesame McDip

In celebration of The Angry Birds Movie, McDonalds presents a new ice cream cone variant: the Black Sesame McDip.

It's vanilla ice cream covered with a black sauce that hardens into a thin shell.

The ice cream itself is not too sugary sweet. It's a bit watery though. The black shell is delicious, and has a satisfying chocolate flavor.

We don't know why the new dessert treat is called Black Sesame. Sure, the dip is black, but where is the sesame? We can't sense anything nutty or toasty.

A cone costs Php 17.

Try it and judge for yourself.

First bite of the Beef Teriyaki Wrap and the Best Chicken Teriyaki Wrap

Tokyo Tokyo presents its new snack options: Teriyaki Wraps! Their teriyaki meat dishes nestling inside a tortilla, with shredded cabbage and Japanese mayonnaise.

First is the Beef Teriyaki Wrap: it's thin slices of beef with a slice of cheese. The meat is tender and juicy. It is however a little too salty. Not even the cabbage and mayonnaise are able to temper the slight saltiness. The cheese is creamy and tasty.

The other Teriyaki Wrap is the Best Chicken Teriyaki Wrap. The sweet-smoky-slightly-spicy flavor of the grilled chicken teriyaki fillet blends well with the mayonnaise and cabbage. It's really good, absolutely delicious!

An order of a Teriyaki Wrap costs Php 85. If you want it with Wasabi Fries or Onion Rings and a drink, that will cost you Php 140.

Try the wraps and judge for yourself.

First bite at Rice Lane

Place: Cool and spacious. The predominantly wooden decor gives the place a stylish, localized feel. The music being played inside though is a little too loud.

Food: Delicious and tasty.

For our rice dish, we have the Bibimbap (Php 320). White rice topped with bean sprouts, cucumber, carrots, mushrooms, beef slices, and fried egg. It is served with gojuchang that is mixed with sesame oil.

The Bibimbap is good! The vegetables are crisp and sweet. The beef slices are tender and meaty. The mushrooms are woodsy, earthy. The sesame gojuchang gives some nuttiness to the classic Korean rice dish. This sauce also has the right amount of kick.

To accompany our rice, we have some Chicken Satay (Php 180): six sticks of grilled chicken basted with peanut sauce, served with pickled cucumber.

The chicken is moist and flavorful. The peanut sauce is not too sweet, and its flavor is complemented by the vibrant taste of coriander and the heat of chili. The pickled cucumber is a little too sugary sweet.

For our drink, we have some Lemongrass Iced Tea (Php 100). Its sweetness is fruity. The dominant flavor is that of calamansi, and the lemongrass comes as an aftertaste. It is reminiscent of Bayani Brew iced tea.

Price: Considering taste (good but not unfamiliar), food quality, and serving size (the "For Sharing" size is too small), we find the food here overpriced.

Service: The servers are warm and friendly. Waiting time for the food is acceptable.

Rice Lane (Asian Market) is on the 3rd floor of the New Eastwood Mall.

Quick sip of Allmytea Iced Tea

It's black tea flavored with calamansi, orange, and vanilla.

The dominant taste is that of the calamansi, then comes the vanilla aftertaste. But an irritation affects the throat after each sip. There's a hint of orange, but the black tea flavor is missing. The drink seems more like calamansi juice than tea.

Try it and judge for yourself.

First bite of the Mango Coconut Loaf

New bread from Starbucks! It has grated coconut meat and mango cubes.

The bread is moist and fresh. It crumbles a little too easily though. The nutty and toasty taste of the coconut is overpowered by the mango flavor that is artificially sweet.

But all in all, not bad. Pwede na.

A slice costs Php 60.

Try it and judge for yourself.

Quick bite of Hungry Juan's Roast Chicken

Hungry Juan presents its Roast Chicken that busy people can easily reheat at home. The chicken is already precooked and is wrapped in a microwaveable plastic bag. The roast chicken is comes with a pack of Lechon Sauce. It comes in two flavors: Sweet Garlic and Chili.

We reheated our Sweet Garlic roast chicken inside a microwave oven for 6 minutes. It came out hot and smelling good! But did it also taste good? Well, it was bland. There was some sweetness sure, but the garlic flavor was nonexistent. Good thing the Lechon Sauce was delicious; it had the authentic livery taste of real lechon sauce. But despite its relative blandness, the Roast Chicken was juicy and moist. Iba talaga kapag Magnolia Chicken ang gamit!

A Hungry Juan Roast Chicken costs Php 209.
