Quick bite: Richeese Cheese Wafer

Wafer biscuits with a cheese-cream filling.



The wafer is of high quality. The filling is too sweet. The sugary taste is overpowering the cheese flavor.

A little disappointing.

Quick bite: Cream-O Caffè Latte

It's a new cookie sandwich variant from Cream-O: chocolate cookies with a coffee cream filling.



The coffee taste of the filling can be sensed. It's just a little too sweet though. Good thing, the slight bitter flavor of the cookies tempers the sweetness.

First bite at Din Tai Fung (Philippines)

Place: The restaurant is spacious, amply stylish, and well lighted. It's just a noisy inside, what with the hustle and bustle of food service and chatter of customers.



Food: The food is tasty, but we are hesitant to call it "the world's best" or impressive.



First on our table is the Noodles with House Special Spicy Sauce (Php 120): soft noodles with an chili-oil based sauce with some minced vegetables. This one is delicious! The noodles are firm enough to be enjoyed, and the sauce is flavorful and has the right amount of heat to whet the appetite. The subtle sweetness of the noodles complements the chili flavor very well.



Next, the Crispy Vegetarian Mushroom Wontons (Php 185, 6 pieces): fried dumplings filled with chopped greens (cabbage and kuchay?) and minced mushrooms. They come with an oil-based dip. The filling tastes O-K, not bad. One can really sense the distinct flavors of the components. The fried wrapper though is a letdown; it tastes a little stale. We think the wontons weren't fried with fresh cooking oil.



Then, the Truffle and Pork Xiao Long Bao (Php 135 per piece): dimsum filled with minced pork and minced truffles. It's not bad. The truffle flavor just needs to go up one more notch to match its price tag. Just one more notch! Bitin! We like the texture of the bun itself and what it does to the consistency of the soup inside.



Next, the restaurant's pièce de résistance, the Pork Xiao Long Bao (Php 160, 5 pieces). Again, we like the texture of the bun. As for the filling, it needs just a little more seasoning or meat flavor, just a little; it tends to be a tad too bland.



Our last savory meal are the Shrimp and Pork Pot Stickers (Php 220, 6 pieces). The filling is fresh, but it needs just a little more touch of flavor. We like nibbling at the crispy parts though.

For our drink, we have a glass of their Classic Iced Tea (Php 45). It has hints of citrus flavor. And it's not too sweet.



For dessert, we have the Chocolate Lava Xiao Long Bao (Php 115, 3 pieces). Now this one, we really like. The chocolate is glossy and velvety. It is not too sweet nor too milky. Yummy!

Price: Considering food quality, serving size, and taste, we find the fare reasonably priced.

Service: Needs improvement! We waited for more than 15 minutes for most of our dishes. Our iced tea was brought during the middle of our lunch. They served us the wrong dessert item. Yikes!

Quick bite: Banana Peanut Butter Split Bowl

A new and healthier dessert or snack option from Jamba Juice.

Granola, fresh banana, frozen yogurt, and peanut butter, all mixed together.



We like the play of textures: the creaminess of the peanut butter and yogurt blended with the rough chewiness of the granola. As for the taste, it's not bad. There's just a little too much peanut butter.

A bowl costs Php 185.
